Artist Statement Cleansed by our mother Acrylic on plywood My work conveys our ultimate mother of humanity, the earth and nature, cleansing us, her children, of the grime and dirt we have brought unto ourselves with our carelessness and disregard for her blessings. Both figures are depicted with grime, dirt, and soot covering them, representing how we have dirtied ourselves and our earth via the sources of pollution. Yet our mother still nurtures us and is working to keep us clean via her sinks. She uses her kind and gentle hand to wipe away our wrongdoings and cares for us…

Artist Statement Doom Visions of the future: What will happen to our world as the human race continues to live on? Will our small towns have to be turned into an overpacked metropolis? Pictured here is my idea of a possible future city. I imagine a dystopian city, with touches of our current world.

Artist Statement Trash Ocean I often see how many things get thrown away, and I wanted to repurpose them into something beautiful, yet meaningful. The painting I made is a vision of our future, but also our reality. The level of trash filling our oceans is astronomical—something I believe could be seen from space one day if nothing is changed. The piece uses a mix of old magazine cut outs and items often found in our oceans to create the water for my globe.

Artist Statement How Much More? When I think about climate change, my first thoughts are about time. How much longer habitats can withstand current conditions, or how much longer we as humankind can continue to neglect them before any big changes are made in our daily lives, is dependent on our perspective. The hourglass shape that contains the image represents how time is always slipping away from us and how we may not have much left. It also represents a never-ending, repetitive cycle of destruction. Used as a timer, the hourglass is flipped over, and the contents flow from one…

Artist Statement The Colors We Lose Oil pastel In this oil pastel piece I explore the submerged brilliance of our oceans in the age of climate change to ask: what matters most? To me it is the survival of our beautiful coral reef ecosystem. Nature provides the foundation for our existence, and yet we sometimes ignore the cooling, tidal waves and ecological stability. Through the vivid coloring of pastels I showed the teeming life in healthy reefs, and the goal we should strive for in our oceans all over the planet. My inspiration and guidance comes from the harmony and…

Artist Statement A Memory the Water Gifted Me Mixed media Collage (Magazine scraps glued directly on the canvas), acrylic paint, hot glue (for the gold frame in the center of the piece) Made from magazine scraps, hot glue, and acrylic paint, this piece highlights a special childhood memory taking place at the beach. In a world where our atmosphere faces death and our ocean fills with garbage, climate art typically depicts these exact images and themes; I wanted to illustrate the complete opposite. The purpose of this painting is to not only show a cherished memory “gifted” by the ocean,…

Artist Statement Charred Mixed media: acrylic paint, paper, and cardstock, on canvas This piece reflects the relationship between nature and humans. The birds symbolize the struggle of nature during the age of climate change. They are torn and falling apart, marked with burns and stains to represent the vulnerability and fragility of the environment. The chaotic brushstrokes in the background create an unstable and unsafe sky, providing the sense of insecurity.
