Welcome to Cooler Communities in Sunderland
Sunderland Elementary students in grades K-6 participated in their first Cooler Communities event this year, which was coordinated by the school librarian! Each grade focused on a unique topic or theme that included energy efficiency, pollinator gardens, upcycling, and wind power. A total of 16 local organizations were on hand to speak to attendees and offer information and opportunities to connect to the community through CSA’s, energy audits, community solar, and more! The organizers also offered a free vegetarian and earth-friendly dinner to all visitors, and lots of parents as well as the principal and Superintendent attended the event.
Congratulations to school librarian Rachel Kidder for organizing a trailblazing first Cooler Communities event. All Sunderland Elementary students, Grades K-6, participated. Each grade focused on a unique topic or theme, that included energy efficiency, pollinator gardens, up-cycling, and wind power. A total of 16 local organizations – a record! – were on hand to speak to attending parents and offer information and opportunities to connect to the community. Tables included Community Shared Agriculture, pollinator friendly plants, energy audits, community solar, and much more. A unique feature and treat was a free vegetarian dinner, earth friendly and tasty, for all visitors. Almost all parents as well as the principal and superintendent attended the very lively event and vendors and non-profits were thrilled about the conversations they were able to have with Sunderland residents.
