Lee Elementary school’s fair included many fun activities, including a textile drive, trivia games and prizes, seed bombs, pizza, and of course, student presentations! Parents and grandparents turned out in large numbers and learned a lot from the students. Tables from compost collection services, Mass Save, the Land Trust, and the Regional Planning Commission provided information for all visitors, who were given raffle tickets for visiting and learning from exhibitors, including the student presenters!
Lee Elementary School teachers Paula Duhon (Science) and Brandon Boule (Art) have long been champions of environmental education. Their students participated in a Cooler Communities program as part of Lee’s Earth Day Celebration. Students exhibited a number of posters and projects related to waste reduction and composting, and offered activities like a nature scavenger hunt, wildflower seed bombs, leaf rubbing, and veggie printing. They also took visitors on a tour of their school’s vegetable garden which provides produce to Lee’s food pantry. Another highlight of the event was the stunning trash sculpture built by Brandon Boule.
